The Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, funded by Gururaj “Desh” and Jaishree Deshpande, was founded in 2002 to spark innovation and entrepreneurship, and to connect MIT faculty, students, and researchers with the high-tech and venture capital communities.

Donor partnerships

Tucked away in all corners of the globe, both likely and unlikely, are individuals with the means and the desire to make our world a better place. Many of these individuals are searching for the right opportunity to make a major and lasting contribution to society.

In 2000, MIT launched an innovative initiative—donor partnerships—to promote relationships between the Institute and visionary individuals who have no previous affiliation with MIT.

These prospective donors may have a specific goal in mind that complements research initiatives under way at MIT, or they may be looking for an opportunity to partner with the Institute in the pursuit of a specific long-term goal, such as the eradication of cancer or finding cures for the debilitating diseases which affect the human brain. Donor partnerships staff introduce these individuals to MIT, and help guide them to areas of inquiry that could be made possible with private support.
