Parents
Like their children, parents of MIT students and graduates tend to be
overachievers.
Even while helping to pay for their son's or daughter's MIT education,
many parents of MIT students make donations to the Institute. They do
this to show their appreciation for the world-class education their children
are receiving, and to support the programs and activities that make the
MIT experience special.
Non-alumni parent gifts make up the Parents Fund, which supports programs
that directly benefit student life, such as athletics, UROP, scholarships,
and the Independent Residence Development Fund (IRDF). A total of 2,483
parents contributed to the Parents Fund in fiscal year 2007, giving a total of $854,977.
