Corporations
MIT's "mens et manus" philosophy—discovering new knowledge,
and applying it in practical ways—has led to a natural collaboration
with industry. These collaborations expand the known universe of opportunities,
for the benefit of both parties. Sometimes, these partnerships advance
an existing field of knowledge; at other times, they point in unexpected
and productive directions.
Relationships between corporations and MIT are mutually beneficial – and
the most powerful evidence is that these partnerships have been expanding
rapidly in recent years. While MIT benefits greatly from the financial
support of interested companies, these same companies look to MIT for
research skills, important new breakthroughs on both the basic and
applied levels, and the talent and ambition to move world industry
forward.
The Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) creates and strengthens relationships
between MIT and corporations worldwide. The office consists of two
branches—the Industrial Liaison Program (ILP), and Corporate
Development. In the past year, OCR developed two five-year, multimillion-dollar
relationships with major corporations.
- The Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) is a flexible and creative
link between MIT and companies, providing customized services
and information to corporate clients. The ILP fosters relationships
and aids company personnel in exploring opportunities to support
diverse activities at the Institute.
- Corporate Development supports MIT faculty and staff in efforts
to maximize corporate support throughout the Institute. Corporate
Development officers work with all of the schools at MIT to identify
priorities for corporate support, and then coordinate with ILP
officers to further develop relationships between MIT and corporations.
Many companies also support their employees' charitable priorities
through matching
gift programs that, in effect, double or triple a gift to MIT.
Contact the human resources office at your company to find out if your
company offers a corporate matching gift program. |
