Last academic year, in just two weeks, 37% of the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes supported MIT students and the Public Service Center through the Underclassmen Giving Campaign. More than $6,500 was raised by MIT students along with an additional $5,000 gift from the campaign challenger Toni Schuman ’58! The money donated last year helped send ten MIT students overseas to do volunteer work during IAP and the summer, and it was all thanks to the participants in the Underclassmen Giving Campaign. All of the money raised by MIT students last year is gone, so it’s time for us to come together again to help our classmates make an impact around the world with expedition grants! From October 26-30, representatives from the Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 will be in Lobby 10 raising money for the Underclassmen Giving Campaign. If you can’t make it to lobby 10, you can also make a secure gift here online anytime. The class with the most donors by the end of the campaign will not only win bragging rights, but will also receive some press in The Tech. Current Alumni Fund Board Chair Don Shobrys ’75 was so inspired by the amazing impact the Underclassmen Giving Campaign had last year that he has offered to challenge the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors this year. Don has agreed to match all dollars raised in the Underclassmen Giving Campaign! This means that every gift made during this academic year can have double the value and double the impact on the PSC!
