Undergraduate commons
MIT prepares leaders for business, research, government, education, and society at large. So, it must teach its students to communicate fluently, and to be culturally knowledgeable, intellectually agile, and confident.
The MIT Task Force on the Undergraduate Educational Commons has published a review of MIT’s “General Institute Requirements” the foundation in natural sciences, mathematics, technology, humanities, arts, and social sciences that forms the core of an MIT education. While affirming the ways in which MIT’s common curriculum has successfully prepared graduates for a lifetime of learning and leadership, the report also recognizes that some very important improvements can be made.
Its recommendations are embodied in the priority program areas included in this section.
