Gift and pledge crediting

Every gift you make to the Institute will be credited to your personal giving record, your class or graduate department, your reunion gift (where applicable), and the MIT Annual Fund (up to $100,000 per fiscal year). Pledges made during any fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) may also be credited to your reunion gift as set forth in the reunion gift crediting rules.

Reunion gift crediting

Here are some guidelines.

5th, 10th, 15th, 20th reunions
What counts: Only gifts made in the 12-month period from July 1 through June 30 of the reunion year.

25th, 40th, 50th reunions
What counts: Gifts made during the five fiscal years (inclusive of the reunion year) and any pledge made by June 30 of your reunion year and payable over the next five years.

30th, 35th, 45th, 55th reunions
What counts: Only gifts made in the 12-month period from July 1 through June 30 of the reunion year.

60th, 65th, 70th, 75th reunions
What counts: Gifts and bequests made five years prior to reunion, through year-end.

Gift and pledge crediting examples

Gabriel Graduate ’04 made a gift of $500 to the unrestricted funds of the Institute on August 23, 2008. Gabe received Annual Fund credit of $500 for fiscal year 2009. He also received a $500 credit toward the Class of 2004 and his 5th reunion gift. And, as an MIT10 alum, he will be recognized as an associate member in the William Barton Rogers Society Annual Report.

Donna Donor ’89 made a $100,000 pledge to support scholarships on June 17, 2008. She made her first pledge payment of $50,000 on October 1, 2008. Donna received a $50,000 credit for both the Annual Fund and the Class of 1989 for fiscal year 2009. She also received a $50,000 credit toward her 20th reunion gift. Donna will be recognized as a visionary member in the William Barton Rogers Society Annual Report.

Leonard Legacy ‘50 recently established a charitable gift annuity at MIT with a contribution of $20,000. Leonard earned a $20,000 credit for both the Annual Fund and the Class of 1950 for fiscal year 2009, and will be recognized as an ambassador of the William Barton Rogers Society. With this gift, he also joins others who have made planned gifts or bequests to the Institute as a member of the Katharine Dexter McCormick (1904) Society.

Graduate alumna Michelle Masters EE ’97 made a $1,000 gift to the EECS Unrestricted Fund on December 31, 2007. Michelle also obtained a 1:1 corporate matching gift from her employer, which was received on March 1, 2008. Michelle’s legal gift credit is still $1,000, however, the matching funds have raised her personal giving total for fiscal year 2008 to $2,000, which is credited to the Annual Fund and to the electrical engineering and computer science department.
