The MIT Sloan student body consists of more than 1,100 graduates and undergraduates from more than 60 countries.

Special gifts

Unrestricted gifts allow the MIT Sloan School of Management to seize new opportunities, and create innovative programs and initiatives. As these start-up programs grow and prove their merit, we seek directed “special gifts” to make them permanent features in the MIT Sloan landscape.

MIT Leadership Center

The MIT Leadership Center provides the foundation for teaching students leadership skills, preparing them to develop and hone those skills throughout their evolving careers. Based on a model of “leadership in teams paired with business acumen and domain expertise,” the MIT Leadership Center teaches leadership to both M.B.A. and executive education students.

Diversity Fellowships

MIT Sloan continually strives to ensure that its students and faculty reflect the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of the real world of work. As part of this broader commitment, MIT Sloan Diversity Fellowships allow the School to attract and recruit the world’s most talented students, from a wide variety of backgrounds. Diversity Fellowships also ensure that all students benefit from dynamic interactions with colleagues from across all industries, sectors, and borders.

Ph.D. Fellowships

The School’s Ph.D. program educates individuals with outstanding intellectual skills—future leaders in the fields of business research and education. To maintain its position among the top business schools worldwide, MIT Sloan must continue to attract these exceptional students. Ph.D. Fellowships help us remain competitive with our peer institutions, and bring the most gifted students to MIT Sloan.

Enhanced academic programs

MIT Sloan’s educational programs must be of the highest caliber, and consistent with its mission. To this end, it is continually reviewing and enhancing its curriculum, and implementing changes. (An example is the clean-slate re-design of its M.B.A. program last year.)

Increasingly, the School finds itself competing for the best faculty talent—not only with other management schools, but also with schools and organizations in many other fields. In response to this changing competitive environment, MIT Sloan has established 14 career development professorships. These positions are designed to offer the brightest young scholars the resources and support they need to launch their careers, and to provide outstanding research and teaching at MIT Sloan.

Entrepreneurship activities

MIT Sloan is known for its ability to train high-tech entrepreneurs who drive the global economy. One enterprise within the School that contributes to this success is the Global E-Lab. A ground-breaking course, it enables teams of engineering, science, and management students to work with top management of international high-tech start-ups, thus gaining hands-on experience in starting and running new enterprises outside of the U.S. Here, students are introduced to the issues and policies that affect the climate for innovation and start-up success. Recent projects have included: helping a South American start-up company gain a foothold in foreign markets while facing currency devaluation, and helping to launch an online marketplace for international development projects.

Enhanced alumni outreach

MIT Sloan continues to devote resources to building its alumni network, in a sustained effort to provide its graduates with valuable activities and programs that strengthen their connection with each other and with the School. Recently, MIT Sloan completed a study to learn more about the sorts of activities, services, and alumni relations programs that will provide the most value to its graduates.
