Center for International Studies
The Center for International Studies (CIS) at MIT is dedicated to generating the knowledge, skills, and leadership necessary to address an increasingly complex international political and economic environment. Drawing on MIT’s strengths in science and engineering, CIS emphasizes the links between these fields and foreign affairs.
CIS is also continually investigating new ways to bring the social sciences—in conjunction with emerging technologies—to bear on public policy.
Since its inception, the Center has benefited from a combination of government, corporate, and individual philanthropic support. Its current funding priorities include:
- Enhancing and growing its new initiatives as well as its established programs. New initiatives include the Program in Human Rights and Justice, the Jerusalem 2050 Initiative, and Humanitarian (migration) Studies. Established and evolving programs include MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) and the Security Studies Program.
- Addressing core needs, including support for graduate fellowships, and for endowed professorships and research positions in international studies—and also, funds to assist with the administrative expenses associated with the Center’s educational and research mission.
Specific ways to invest in the Center for International Studies include directing your gift to one of the following funds:
