School of Engineering
As the world’s leading engineering school, MIT’s School of Engineering has contributed directly to many of the major scientific and technological developments that transformed the 20th century: electricity, automobiles, spacecraft, radio and television, refrigeration, agricultural mechanization, health technologies, and computers. With a remarkable tradition of achievement, a passion for excellence, and an enduring sense of social responsibility, the MIT School of Engineering is extraordinarily well positioned to lead the next generation of engineering innovation.
The School strives to make significant contributions to solutions for the societal challenges of the 21st century, by pursuing a course of leadership that includes both technical excellence and innovation. Thanks to the extraordinary enthusiasm and generosity of alumni and friends during MIT’s recent capital campaign (1997–2004), the School’s initiatives have benefited in many ways. Additional support is welcome, and will enable the School to continue innovating in both teaching and research arenas.
School of Engineering initiatives focus on three themes:
Investing in new vectors of research
Cultivating a new generation of leaders
Creating an environment for innovation
In addition to School-wide initiatives, numerous opportunities exist to help build upon the excellence of the School’s departments, divisions, laboratories, centers, and programs.
